The former Brazilian leader has been taken into custody after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under house arrest.
The one-time leader was sentenced of planning a armed takeover in the ninth month and sentenced more than 27 years in jail, but he remained under house arrest pending appeals.
Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Justice Moraes said the move to detain the 70-year-old politician was a precautionary step after recent developments came to light.
This encompassed attempting to break his ankle monitor and a call for a public vigil that could "allow for a possible escape.
Court Filing Details Escape Concerns
In a paperwork permitting the detention, the magistrate said intelligence from the unit overseeing his home detention suggested the former leader's aim to disable the electronic ankle bracelet to guarantee victory in his flight.
This, it said, would be made easier by the chaos caused by the protest called by his child.
His offspring, Flávio, who serves as a congressional representative, called for a assembly of his backers near the former president's residence to take place on Saturday evening.
Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on online platforms on last Friday: Do you plan to struggle for your country, or see it all from your mobile device there on your couch? I urge you to fight with us."
He said the gathering would be so backers could "pray for his health and for the reestablishment of democratic governance in our land."
Embassy Asylum Concerns
Part of the magistrate's ruling was the potential of his move to embassies near the residence, considering that the investigations revealed a record of organizing to ask for protection through a consular facility", a declaration said.
The legal document underscores that the United States embassy in the national capital, the capital city, is situated around 13km from his dwelling.
Worldwide Consequences
The former president's legal troubles have drawn the ire of fellow right-wing populist American leader Donald Trump, causing him to impose a fifty percent tax on goods coming from Brazil.
Bolsonaro is being held in a federal law enforcement building in Brazil's capital city and will undergo a detention review on the next day.
Recent Legal Requests
It was only on the previous day that the former president's lawyers asked the High Court to permit him to fulfill his full incarceration period under house arrest, with electronic monitoring.
They also asked that Bolsonaro be authorized to depart his residence for medical care, saying he required ongoing care for pulmonary infections and other ailments.
Details of Guilty Verdict
Bolsonaro was found guilty of leading a conspiracy aimed at keeping him in power after he lost the 2022 election to his political opponent, Lula.
Top judicial officials said that he was aware of a scheme which involved plans to assassinate the current president and his running partner, Alckmin, and to detain and kill Alexandre de Moraes - the Supreme Court justice who has been managing Bolsonaro's trial.
The conspiracy was prevented because it couldn't obtain the support of the military leaders. His successor was took office without incident on 1 January 2023.
But a week later, on January 8th, thousands of his followers invaded and destroyed government buildings in the capital, Brasília.
The security forces intervened and around fifteen hundred individuals were taken into custody.
The judges found that the protesters had been encouraged by him whose strategy, they said, was for the national armed forces to intervene, reestablish control and bring him back to power.
At the moment, Bolsonaro's lawyers called the 27 years and three months sentence "absurdly excessive.
He was also prohibited from seeking elected position until the year 2060 - eight years after the completion of his term.
The ex-leader called the legal proceedings a targeted investigation" and said it was aimed at blocking him participating in the next presidential race.
